Wonderings

Today we discussed Globalisation. We talked about what the following words meant:

consumer - people who buy items
producer - people who make products
import- products coming into a country
export- products sent to other countries
global- the whole world
local- near to us
products - things we buy and use

We then came up with some wonderings after looking at where our shoes were made.

WONDERINGS:

Why aren’t our shoes made in New Zealand?
Why are most things shipped from China to New Zealand?

How are the tags on our shoes translated?

Add what you think in the comments below.

Art made from Reused Materials

We have made some pieces of art from milk bottle top lids and some left over floor boards. These things would have just been thrown out but we have made something new out of them. We hope you enjoy some of

them!

Worm Farm

After discovering that 100% of our organic rubbish is going to the landfill we have now got a worm farm in Room 8 so we can feed our fruit scrapes to the tiger worms. The Tiger worms are able eat their own body weight every day. We can then put the worm castings into our school garden to help our plants grow.

Fractions and Time

Over the next few weeks in Maths, we are studying Fractions and Time.

This is what we will be learning:

-Identify and name simple fractions ie half, quarter, third, fifth, tenth
-Write simple fractions in words and symbols (ie half/ ½)
-Recognise that some fractions are the same (ie ½ and 2/4)
-Order fractions smallest to largest and largest to smallest with the same denominator (bottom number) ie
1, 2, 3, 4
4  4 4  4
-Solve fraction of a set problems by using skip counting/times table & division knowledge
ie There are 2 people and 10 biscuits. How many biscuits do they get each? (2,4,6,8,10 =5 or 2x5=10 or 10÷2=5)

-Reading calendars

-Asking children to tell the time from clocks at home
